| Porsche issued this brochure in March of 1969
in order to sell whatever cars they would not reserve for the works team.
At the 1969 Geneva Motorshow, Porsche stunned the public with what was
to become one of most successful endurance race cars in the history of
motorracing. The car reached its absolute high by becoming multiple
24 hour of Le Mans winner and by reaching more than a 1,000 HP and in the
capable hands of Mark Donahue it became a Can-Am champion.
Text was included in German, French and English.
The brochure provides comprehensive specifications including the 520 HP
engine, top speed of over 320 KM/H (200 MPH), and the price of a staggering
DM 140,000.
Quoting from page 5: "For race tracks with a top
speed of more than 240 KPH, the 917 will be delivered with a lengthened
'high-speed' tail." and "Optional gear ratios are available not only for
the transmission, but also for the ring- and pinion gear". |
